Nutritional counseling

A balanced and species-appropriate diet is an important part of animal health. There are veterinary practices specializing in animal nutrition and dietetics that can advise on feed selection and composition.

Procedure

First, a detailed preliminary report on the animal is compiled. This is often done using a detailed questionnaire. In the next step, the veterinary practice checks the current diet in terms of nutritional requirements and balance. Important factors in assessing nutritional requirements include the age, breed, and weight of the animal, as well as its level of physical activity. The specific (e.g., castration, allergies) and any disease-related needs of the animal are then addressed individually, and a so-called ration calculation and feeding plan are drawn up. There are a number of feed and feed additives for specific needs or diseases that can only be obtained from the veterinary practice.
